Seeing 2020: Becoming Jesus-like Initiative

We are entering a new year and new decade and the hope and joy for the future could not be better! This new year is 2020 and our new initiative has a double entendre that refers to seeing things with clarity or normal vision. The object of our view is “Becoming Jesus-like”. As we start the new year let us focus on learning how to be more like Jesus, our Christ, in all the things we say and do. While we will never be perfect like Jesus was, our goal should be strive to be like him as we walk the earth. This is all preparation for our eternal life with him and Father God. Each day, if we consciously apply His lessons and commandments, we can improve our followership and live out the fruit of the spirit that he implants within our hearts. This is a process called “sanctification” and it is hosted by the Holy Spirit.

Join us here regularly and frequently for practical lessons for Seeing 2020: Becoming Jesus-like!

The old life is gone: a new life has begun!  -2 Corinthians 5:17

January: Perhaps one of the biggest realizations we all need concerns ourselves and it is this: Get over yourself! The sooner you realize that it is not about you, and it is all about Jesus Christ, the better off you will be. Commit this to heart and your life will change completely!

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

-John 15:5 New King James Version (NKJV)

February: Listen Up! Jesus said in Mark 4:9; “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” He is telling us to pay close attention to his words and work at understanding them for the transformation they can bring. Jesus wants his words to take root in us and lead us to better things. He wants us to bear fruit by walking and talking like him. Only by hearing his words in this way can this happen. Apostle Paul appeals to us in the same way in Romans 10:17 when he wrote; “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Our faith leads to our salvation and it only comes through hearing the Gospel. The Holy Spirit is at work here also but it all starts by each sinner hearing and listening to the Word.

March: Keeping the Faith! On Keeping the Faith;
8-Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9-for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. –1 Peter 1:8-9 New International Version (NIV)

April: In the midst of God! We need to grow to know that in our very fiber God exists. This means that He is in our soul, our heart, our mind, our psyche, our personality, and he should be in our every thought. It takes some time and inner reflection to come to this understanding but once it really hits you it hits you like a ton of bricks! This realization comes with a full feeling emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. If this has not captured you yet what are you running from, or to? Thomas Merton once said “For although God is right with us and in us and out of us and all through us, we have to go on journeys to find him.” Doesn’t this sound ridiculous? We sometimes search for God and he has been right there all along! And you know what? Once you realize that He is in your midst: that you are in His midst, you will also learn that he will never leave you! Now, hold that thought!

May: Christ lives in Me! Realize that with Christ nailed to that cross, it is really you, it is really me, and that crucifixion of our Savior means that we no longer are slaves to a corrupt world if we believe in Him. His death on the cross enables us to live in freedom to sin. We become dead to sin and alive to Christ because of what he has done for us!

June: Fruit of the Spirit! Belief in and a relationship with Jesus will bless someone beyond all imagination. Jesus promised he would install the Holy Spirit into his believers and He would be with them forever (John 14:16). The Holy Spirit will produce and develop the fruit of the spirit through sanctification (Galatians 5:22-23). Oh, what a great promise!

July: Daily Remembrance of the Gospel! Martin Luther once wrote that we need to hear about the Gospel of Christ daily because we tend to forget it. Brothers and Sisters we need to be reminded frequently of what Jesus Christ did for us. Jesus, as our Lord and Savior, is the greatest gift God could ever give us. Through Him our sins are forgiven and we are granted eternal life. Pinch yourself: for this spiritual cleansing renews our spirits and provides us with new hearts! “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” –1 Peter 2:24
